Bennett Hails Latest Jobs Numbers as Good News For The Growing Economy

Joint Economic Committee Vice Chairman Bob Bennett (R-Utah) said today the latest jobs numbers released in this morning's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) employment report reflect that the country's economic expansion remains steady and strong.

"Today's report confirms that the U.S. economy remains steady and strong. The U.S. has experienced 30 consecutive months of job growth, resulting in more Americans working today than any other time in our nation's history. This is certainly more good news for the economy, and further evidence the Bush tax cuts are working" said Bennett.

Highlights in the report include:
• The U.S. economy added 243,000 new jobs in February. Over the past 12 months, 2.1 million new jobs have been added, and nearly 5 million since August 2003.

• The unemployment rate is 4.8 percent, which is lower than the average of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
